Trade Candidate: Francisco Cervelli

Throughout his career, Francisco Cervelli was constantly behind Jorge Posada on the Yankees' depth chart at the catcher position. Many people assumed that Cervelli would make the team as the backup catcher this year because the team simply did not have any other options. He ended up being put in Triple-A and the team named Chris Stewart its backup catcher. 

Cervelli has always been a scrappy player who has occasionally pulled some bush-league tactics on the opposition. He doesn't hit for power but can maintain a batting average of .280ish over the long run. The Yankees will definitely look to trade him because youngsters Austin Romine and Gary Sanchez and quickly rising through the system and they could possibly by Russell Martin's replacement. 

A number of teams could be interested in Cervelli is he were to be made available. Those teams include the Rays, White Sox, Nationals, Mets and Pirates. All these teams need a backup catcher but I can definitely envision the Nationals as being a perfect fit for Cervelli. Lets just say they send John Lannan to NY for Cervelli. That would be a beneficial trade for both sides.

Cervelli probably isn't worth too much, but he is very young and just needs some playing time in order to develop into a nice player. A team would probably be willing to part with a C+ prospect for him.

Overall, Cervelli will probably not get traded until Romine or Sanchez are ready for the big leagues. He is a very talented player but needs to get more playing time. I can definitely see GM Brian Cashman exploring his options with Cervelli.
