The Diamondbacks have designated third baseman Ryan Roberts for assignment. The move will create roster space for shortstop John McDonald, who is going to be activated off of the 15 day DL.The Rays recently showed interest in trading for Roberts, so GM Kevin Towers could possibly send him to Tampa Bay.
Roberts has hit .250 in 280 plate appearances this season. He will earn $2.01 million this season and will remain under team control through 2015.
