Freddy Sanchez officially out for season, will have surgery

The Giants announced that infielder Freddy Sanchez will officially be out for the season because he has elected to get back surgery to remove part of a disc. This is probably the most serious setback that Sanchez has experienced in his career.

The 34 year old infielder is a three time All-Star and the 2006 National League batting champion. He played a critical role in helping San Francisco win the 2010 World Series but he has struggled to stay healthy throughout his entire career. He had surgery on his left shoulder in December of 2009 and had surgery on his right shoulder in December of 2010.

Sanchez will make $6 million this year and will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Analysis: Sanchez is just another player whose career has been thrown off due to injuries. It's a shame that he hasn't stayed healthy because when he's on the field he is one of the best second basemen in the game. Best of luck to him and I hope he gets a shot at redeeming his career next season.
