The Red Sox have placed second baseman Dustin Pedroia on the 15 day disabled list with a thumb injury that he suffered three weeks ago. Pedroia has dealt with the pain for weeks now and has had several setbacks while doing so. Nick Punto is going to get the bulk of Pedroia's playing time while he is gone.Pedroia has hit .266 in 338 plate appearances this year.
