Trade talk: Saunders for Betemit makes sense

There have been several moves lately, and the trade market is beginning to shape up. I noticed that the Diamondbacks have been heating up lately and are actually entering the race. The Dodgers are starting to slip away, and Arizona could be making a serious bid for one of the two wildcard spots. Arizona desperately needs a third baseman and Wilson Betemit of the Orioles could be their man. Ryan Roberts, Arizona's current third baseman, has not played well, hitting .240 with 6 home runs this year. The D'Backs have a surplus of pitching, even with the injury to Daniel Hudson. Saunders will be expendable because top prospect Trevor Bauer is going to take his job once he finds his groove. Josh Collmenter is also returning to the rotation, and all signs are pointing to Saunders being the odd man out.

It's no secret that Orioles need pitching depth, and Saunders would be a nice addition for them. Jason Hammel and Wei-Yin Chen have been the only reliable starting pitchers for Baltimore and it is clear that they will need to add some pitching if they want to compete in a tough AL East division. Saunders has a 3.44 ERA this season, and he would give the Orioles a veteran pitcher who has a solid track record. Losing Betemit wouldn't kill the Baltimore's offense, because they have Mark Reynolds who can slide over to third base.
