The Pirates have claimed reliever Hisanori Takahashi off of waivers from the Angels. Takahashi was sent to Triple-A by Los Angeles five days ago.Takahashi has posted a 4.93 ERA in 42 games with the Angels this year. He signed a two-year, $8 million deal with them after the 2010 season. He is eligible for free agency at the end of the season.
Analysis: Nice pickup for Pittsburgh. Takahashi is a really nice player to have on your club because he can serve as your swingman, making a few spot starts every here and there, and he could serve as a left handed specialist. He has held lefties to a .244 batting average this year, so he is definitely effective against them.
