Red Sox acquire Beato to complete Shoppach deal

The Red Sox have completed the Kelly Shoppach deal by acquiring relief pitcher Pedro Beato from the Mets. The Mets claimed Shoppach off of waivers from Boston a couple of days ago.

Beato has posted a 4.67 ERA in 71 1/3 relief innings for New York over the last two seasons. The Mets originally acquired him as a Rule 5 draft pick from the Orioles last year, and they managed to keep him all summer. Beato has posted a 4.14 ERA in 37 Triple-A innings this season, and missed quite a bit of playing time with a shoulder injury.
