Homer Bailey throws no-hitter vs. Pittsburgh

Last night, Cincinnati Reds' starter Homer Bailey threw a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He struck out 10 batters and walked one, and retired the side in order in the ninth inning.

This is the 15th no-hitter in Reds history and the first since Tom Browning's perfect game against the Dodgers in 1988. Bailey is now 5-0 with a 1.40 ERA in six starts at PNC Park in his career, and this is the first time the Pirates have been held hit-less since Bob Gibson no-hit them in 1971.

Bailey, a former first round pick, now has a 3.75 ERA in 32 starts this season. He also has 204.0 innings pitched, which is the most in his brief career thus far.

Analysis: That was a great game, and the atmosphere was awesome in the ninth inning. I've always been tough on Bailey because up to this season he hasn't really lived up to his first round pick hype, but he has quietly put up a very nice 2012 season, and is deserving of this no-hitter. He is still only 26 years old, and if he can find consistency, he can definitely be a useful weapon down the road for the Reds.
